The Northern region is the agricultural centre of the country, and it is aiming to upgrade its efficiency in production by restructuring technologies used, as well as implementing methods to conform with commercial scale holders. We target by 2012 to: |

Increase agricultural exports from RM32 billion to RM48 billion |

Increase paddy yields from 4 tonnes per hectare to 8 tonnes per hectare |

|
The electrical and electronic (E&E) sector is one of the major contributors to the nation’s economy. The conversion of the region into a high-tech electronics hub enriches higher value-added activities including wafer fabrication, chip design, automation design, and materials or packaging research and development. In addition to E&E, other manufacturing sub-sectors that will be promoted are downstream agriculture, oil and gas, biotechnology, automotive, and sustainable materials. Targeted outcomes by 2012 are:

Key Tourism areas in the North such as Langkawi and Pulau Pinang will have their expenditure increased, enhancing and expanding the size of the industry to attract higher revenue-yielding tourists. The Northern Corridor will also be touted as the regional medical tourism hub in Asia by providing high-quality and more affordable medical specialists and procedures. The Region will be known as a centre of excellence for areas such as cardiac care and oncology, globally-accredited hospitals and highly-qualified medical and healthcare professionals. |
