Financial Incentives
Introduction
Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) has been entrusted by the Government to manage a number of special-purpose grants, which were created to provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs and companies involved in promoted sectors in Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).
The main objective of the grant schemes is to encourage the creation and the development of new and existing companies involved in Manufacturing, Tourism and modern and commercial scale Agriculture activities in NCER. The Grants is to serve to address the barriers to start a new or expand an existing business.
NCIA is responsible to coordinate, process, evaluate, recommend and approve fund applications. Funds are disbursed based on milestones and will be monitored closely to ensure the approved grants are used for the defined deliverables.
Eligibility and limits imposed vary in accordance with the scope of activities and type of funds.
The grants are only available in 2009.
Types of Funds Available
Business Start Up Fund
Established to financially assist the setup of high potential and deserving Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the promoted sectors within NCER area.
Research and Development Matching Fund
Established to facilitate new and existing companies in NCER to move to higher value add activities by developing competitive advantage by acquiring Intellectual Property and Technology through research and development activities.
Land Amalgamation Fund
Established to promote the establishment of “mini estates” in NCER by providing funding that will encourage commercial level agricultural businesses / entrepreneurs to undertake risk and effort involved in such ventures.
Venture Capital
An investment fund will therefore be established for early stage companies in promoted manufacturing activities in the Northern Corridor. This includes SMEs investing in activities that would synergise with the local E&E, agricultural, sustainable materials and biotechnology sectors.
