Research and Development Matching Fund

Who should apply?
- MNC/domestic E&E companies seeking to move up the value chain.
- MNC/domestic manufacturing companies seeking to acquire technology or further develop existing technology.
- Large scale, professional agriculture companies undertaking R&D.
Eligibility Criteria
- Foreign owned companies are also eligible to apply but local equity must be at least 30%;
- Proposed business activities must be in one of the NCER promoted sectors;
- Conducted geographically within NCER;
- Complements socio-economic objectives of NCER;
- 50% of the R&D/design team to be Malaysians;
- Project plan must be validated by NCIA;
- Priority given to projects that have demonstrated proof of concept or lab scale results;
- Experienced management team;
Mode of Funding
The grant is a matching grant, hence, NCIA would match “ringgit-for-ringgit” spent on the project up to the total approved grant and based on the agreed milestones.
The grant shall be made out on a reimbursement basis and should be utilized within 2 years from the date of approval.
Expenditure Covered by Research and Development Matching Fund
The funding shall cover expenditure incurred for the approved R&D project which includes:-
- Cost of acquiring technology/IP;
- Cost in developing technology;
- Cost of essential laboratory machineries and equipments including consumables;
- Cost related for acquiring essential accreditation, certification and standards related to laboratory and its related activities;
- Cost related to intellectual property filing, registration and maintenances;
- Cost related to sample or prototype testing;
- Cost related for outsourcing research and development activities.
How to Apply?
Applicants shall submit the followings:
- Duly completed NCIA Fund Pre-Application Form.
- Duly completed Research and Development Matching Fund Application Form (Upon approval of the Pre-Application Form).
- Documents stated in the checklist provided together with the above Application Form.
