Brief Project Description
  • The project involves the rearing of cattle under feedlot conditions and activities include fattening of calves through the feedlot system.
  • To achieve three cycles of 600 heads of cattle per year with estimated cattle sold 36,000 heads during 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP).
  • Smart partnership with investor, National Feedlot Center (NFC) and anchor Company through joint venture, equity partnership, soft loan and other incentives.
  • A total of 20 unit cluster smart feedlot shed will develop on 9th MP and further more to be developed during 10th MP.
Project Rationale
  • Reduction of beef import bill;
  • Optimal and economic utilisation of resources;
  • Increasing farmers/project income; and
  • Synergy effect to the project.

Animal Breeding Centre

Brief Project Description
  • The initiative will focus on an accelerated programme to increase the quantity and quality of cattle in the country.
  • The initiative involves application of genetic material like semen, embryo and DNA products in commercial production farms where breeding cattle are reared intensively under feedlot conditions.
  • Bulls are placed in special compartment within the shed to service all females on heat. Alternatively artificial breeding can be implemented to complement natural mating.
  • Each breeding center with total area 200 hectare and 2000 breeder with smart partnership with selected anchor company.
Project Rationale
  • Operates a fast track cattle research and breeding program.
  • Maximises utilization of grazing reserve.
  • Reduces the need of opening new areas for cattle production.
  • Increases number of cattle that can be reared within each specially designed shed.
  • Ensures the calves can be reared and reached maturity within the same shed.

Animal Feed Mill Centre

  • Sungai Petani, Kedah
Brief Project Description
  • Establishment one new feed mill center in MADA area as apparently there none in Kedah to support the increase in cattle and other livestock production.
  • Estimated total production is 50 metric tonnages per day and mainly consists of “jerami paddy”, PKC and other materials.
  • This center can support 3330 cattle for feed and other livestock.
Project Rationale
  • Full utilisation of crop by-products for animal feed production;
  • Helping to reduce importation of animal feed;
  • Utilisation of new sources of animal feed;

Animal Biotechnology Centre

Brief Project Description
  • Application of latest biotechnology in genetic improvement of livestock for example yellow cattle.
  • Marker-assisted selection for productive and reproductive traits development
Project Rationale
  • Increase the level animal husbandry production within NCER;
  • Introduce better breed of livestock to achieve national livestock target.

Goat Farming

Brief Project Description
  • The goat breeding & research centre which is strategically located to promote R&D and training farms in goat husbandry.
  • Rearing of high quality goats in proper housing. Activities include cross breeding and use of good nutrition feed.
  • Reproductive and nutritional research will be the mainstay of the centre.
  • As a centre of excellence in goat husbandry and as a resource centre.
  • Application of AI technology in goat breeding.
  • Encourage potential entrepreneurs to undertake goat farming.
Project Rationale
  • Establishment of a strong Research and Development in goat breeding and husbandry
  • Highest return to investment in livestock.
  • Marketing potential because of low self sufficiency.
  • As a poverty eradication project in depressed areas.
  • Reduction of mutton import bill for the country.

Animal Marketing Centre

Brief Project Description
  • To establish better livestock marketing system according national accreditation (HACCP) and strategic alliance with expertise from Australia.
  • Targeted transaction is 6,500 breeders and 18,000 animals to be slaughtered and marketed.
Project Rationale
  • Increase the efficiency in distribution of meat along the supply chain management.
  • Achieve national level target for livestock.

Agro Human Resources Development Centre

District & State
  • Sintok, Kedah
Brief Project Description
  • Joint venture with Agricultural College and University Utara Malaysia on theoretical and practical aspect on feedlot and breeding center.
  • To conduct seminars and workshop on livestock management (GAHP) and SALT.
  • To sponsor eligible entrepreneurs for overseas training in livestock management, New Zealand.
Project Rationale
  • Contribute to high level of training and education among agro entrepreneurs.
  • Reduce the shortage of semi and skilled farmers that enhances the quality of farming and farm management.
  • Reduce the dependency on foreign expertise on farming.

Paddy Crop

Transformation of Paddy

District & State
  • MADA areas and outside MADA areas which includes Kerian, Perlis and Pulau Pinang
Brief Project Description
  • Improving irrigation system to produce better yield and quality.
  • Increase the efficiency of water management through better flood management and new equipments.
  • Introduce better seed for high yield such hybrid or inbred.
  • Close co-operation with MADA and other relevant government agency to fastened the transformation.
  • Encourage private and anchor company participation in the production of rice.
Project Rationale
  • Achieve national target of 8.0 – 10 tonnage of paddy per hectare as compared to now 5.0 tonnages.
  • Increases farmers’ income and provide better return on investment.
  • Reduces importation of rice in the country and achieve self-sufficiency level.

Hatchery Centre

Brief Project Description
  • Plays an important role in the supply chain that supplies Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) fry and fingerlings to aquaculture entrepreneurs.
  • Enhancing production and minimising the risk of widespread disease.
  • Reared species will include Black Tiger Shrimp and high value fish varieties such as Tilapia and Cobia.
Project Rationale
  • Local rearing of fry and fingerlings gives growers greater confidence in food safety and traceability standards; aids in Halal certification of end product.
  • Reduce import of fingerling and fry from Thailand etc.
  • First step to developing a sustainable aquaculture industry.

Aqua Feed Centre

  • Five integrated aqua feed centre would be developed to support the entire value chain.
