NTEP was launched to help create job opportunities for Malaysian youths, women, unemployed graduates, management trainees, graduate trainees, interns, part-time workers, contract workers and retrenched workers.
Through this programme, participants receive high-quality work and soft skills training to enhance their competitiveness. Participants will also be placed in participating companies to further enhance their work and soft skills relating to the participating companies’ industry such as in Manufacturing, Digital Economy and many others.
Through the programme’s collaboration with various agencies and organisations, participants receive training and relevant certification, along with access to job placement opportunities. They also stand to benefit from buyback arrangements for the products and services they produce. So far, over 3,000 people have benefitted from this initiative.
New graduates who join Micron Memory Malaysia will undergo on-the-job training for six (6) months, covering both technical and soft skills.
Trainees are also given work exposure at other Micron sites in the region such as Xi’an in China and Singapore. This familiarises them with the company’s systems, structure and technology, while also providing networking opportunities.
Each trainee will also be assigned a “buddy” who acts as their mentor at the workplace.
ViTrox Corporation has its own in-house series of soft skills training programmes for new graduates.
These include email writing and presentation skills, which are covered in the “Effective Series”. There is also the “Language Mastery Series” which is on communication skills, and the “Lean Series” which covers problem-solving skills through Lean Tools and mindset cultivation.
Oppstar Technology provides a series of Integrated Circuit (IC) Design training classes for NTEP trainees which lasts between four (4) to six (6) months.
The training, which covers both theoretical and practical aspects, is conducted by the company in partnership with Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Collaborative Microelectronic Design Excellence Centre (CEDEC). Classes include Introduction to IC Design, Digital Front End Design, Digital Back End Design, Analog Circuit Design, Custom Layout Design and Design for Test.
Oppstar Technology will monitor the trainees’ learning progress and identify their strengths before assigning them to the appropriate IC Design job scope, where they will be led by the company’s senior designers. Trainees who are ready will be immediately assigned to local and overseas projects under the guidance of senior designers until they are able to work independently. Regular dialogue and shared learning sessions are also conducted to help expedite their IC Design learning process.
