Sustainable Management of Natural Resources

Like the rest of the world, NCER is going green and plans to establish a green economic zone by leveraging the region’s natural resources.

Renewable energy will be a core element for this new priority sector, and it has great potential for development in Perlis and Perak. Perlis is naturally endowed with renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass and bioenergy. Perak has low energy costs along with ample land availability for green-based economy establishment.

Kedah has launched its green energy and renewable energy master plan in July 2019, while Pulau Pinang has plans to venture heavily into solar farming, in a push to harness renewable energy for the state.

NCER is also looking at biodiversity and ecosystem services to provide valuable contributions to the region’s economic growth and welfare. Because the region is blessed with rich biodiversity, there is huge potential to tap into these resources to drive rural development through sustainable methods such as eco-based tourism.
