NCIA will further leverage NCER’s world-class natural, cultural and historical attractions to sustainably develop more tourism products that will generate new economic activities for the rakyat.
Tourism products across NCER states will be linked up through a border-transcending strategy to offer visitors a richer, more comprehensive and integrated experience.
NCIA will also optimise the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) platform to promote its tourism destinations, as well as capitalise on the strengths of Pulau Pinang and Langkawi to pull tourists to visit other attractive destinations within the region.
NCIA plans to transform the Ipoh Town Hall into a Performance Art Centre.
For the city’s Heritage Tourism, plans are underway to install sound and lighting features at the Ipoh Padang for light projection shows that will highlight the history and culture of the city, its tourism destinations, as well as cartoons by beloved Malaysian cartoonist, Dato’ Lat.
NCER’s archaeo tourism sites will be connected via the trans-border Archaeo Tourism Link which will provide holistic knowledge and experience to tourists. Facilities at the sites will also be enhanced to improve convenience for visitors and generate more economic activities for the rakyat in the areas.
Pulau Pangkor has been gazetted as a duty-free zone since 1 January 2020. This is among other initiatives being planned to spur the island’s economic growth and enhance its attractiveness as a tourism destination.
